Tips for Selecting Vendors

A Joyous Occasion

A Certified Wedding Consultant
San Jose, CA
Email: Marcia Coleman-Joyner
Phone: 408.267.0773
Fax: 408.267.0785

Starting her business in 1989, Marcia has earned a reputation for excellence from both peers and clients. In addition to coordinating 30 to 40 weddings per year, she is an instructor for the ACPWC (Association of Certified Professional Wedding Consultants) Wedding Consulting Course, a charter member of the organization, and immediate past-chairperson, having served in that capacity for eight years.

Marcia begins with a free, no-obligation consultation, the most extensive one I’ve come across. She learns about the couple’s desires, personalities, and lifestyles, and also includes budget preparation. After the consultation, she gives a list of current references and encourages you to call them. She also encourages couples to interview other wedding consultants so they are sure they are selecting the right one for them.

Marcia's contract is set up like a menu in a restaurant. You are able to pick and choose from a list of services. For instance, you may choose to hire her only for the rehearsal and day of the wedding. In this case, there is a flat fee and an hourly rate for consultations before the event. Another option would be to obtain vendor referrals, based on your consultation and budget, for a flat fee. If you would like her both to locate and to procure vendors, she will organize all communication with those vendors and charge a percentage of each vendor’s fee. She also will work with services already contracted by the couple. For those who would like Marcia to take care of everything, the cost is based on a percentage of the actual wedding budget. No wedding is too big or too small. Given her experience and knowledge, she can assist in all areas. However, the final decisions always are left to the client.

References think she is easy to work with, very experienced, professional, and indispensable on the wedding day. Here are some comments from her clients: "As we reflect upon our very special day, it becomes quite clear – we absolutely could not have done it without you." "Your service is invaluable." "We’re still amazed at how many balls you juggle so elegantly!" The owner of a winery said, "When Marcia coordinates the wedding, it’s like a vacation. We all can sit back and relax."
